GLL announce £800,000 investment in Cornish Leisure

Cornwall Council’s leisure partner GLL has announced the first phase of a £18m investment in its facilities across the county so customers have a better experience when doing the activities they enjoy most.

Last month (1 April 2017) GLL took over the day-to-day operation of  15 facilities and attractions with a remit to refresh facilities and improve footfall, getting more people more active more often.

GLL is the UK’s largest leisure charitable social enterprise, delivering over 300 facilities in the UK under the ‘Better’ brand.

Initially, nearly £800,000 will be spent on improving gym facilities at six centres this Summer, so more customers can be welcomed into more attractive facilities. New Technogym equipment will be installed in Lux Park Leisure Centre, Waterworld, Phoenix Leisure Centre, Saltash Leisure Centre, Ships & Castles Leisure Centre and St Ives Leisure Centre.

Waterworld gets a new changing room and Saltash Leisure Centre gets a new exercise class studio.

Reception areas at Lux Park Leisure Centre and Saltash Leisure Centre also get a refresh.

Juliette Dickinson, Regional Director, said “We are wasting no time getting our investment programme underway.

“Customers will have a better experience when using our centres – we are installing the latest gym equipment and refreshing the look and feel so our centres offer a brighter, more attractive visit.”

With a variety of affordable memberships available for the community, including Inclusive Memberships for disabled users, Club Membership for the 60+ community and an all encompassing Better Health & Fitness Membership which allows access to all the facilities across the county, we’re making leisure in Cornwall Better.
