The National Canoe Sprint Championships at Nottingham Watersport’s Centre included the selection trials for the Junior & U23 World and European Championship last weekend (4-5 July), 14 athletes have been selected for the British team for the World Junior and U23 Championships. They will travel to Portugal for their final preparation before the Championships which begin in Montemor o Velho.
Our very own GSF athlete Trevor Thomson competed and won 4 national Golds and one Bronze medal. Having received such a great result, it was announced that Trevor has been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Championships in July and the European Champs in September.
Congratulating the athletes on a great weekend’s racing, Heather Williams, British Canoeing Talent Pathway Manager said: “We had an excellent week-end of racing at Nottingham with many athletes stepping up to the challenge of a single selection regatta, and producing their best performance of the year so far. Our focus this year has been about peaking for the major championships in the middle and end of the season and developing “Championship” athletes capable of performing under pressure, when it counts, on a specific day.”
