Dormers Wells Leisure Centre in Southall will be hosting ‘No Strings Badminton’ and Coached Junior ‘SmashUp!’ sessions for members and local residents from the 6th of November.
BADMINTON England in partnership with charitable social enterprise GLL are aiming to increase participation in the Southall area at Dormers Wells Leisure Centre, which is operated by GLL on behalf of the council under its Better brand.
‘No Strings Badminton’ is the low cost way to play badminton for relaxed, social game-play for adult players of all abilities. ‘SmashUp!’ is BADMINTON England’s perception changing, innovative youth Badminton initiative, aimed at inspiring children of all sporting abilities to swing a racket. No dress code, relaxed coaching, and lots of fun.
The sessions will take place on Fridays from the 6th of November. A ‘No Strings Badminton’ session will cost participants £5 but is free to over 55 Better Club members. 8 – 10pm. Juniors are invited to the ‘SmashUp!’ session for £3. Under 9’s can attend between 5 – 6pm. Over 9’s, 6 – 7pm, free to Better Junior Members. Dormers Wells Leisure Centre will also be offering school children from neighboring schools free entry for the first four weeks.
Maximilian Goodchild, Better Community Sports Manager for Ealing & Hillingdon comments, ‘Being a Badminton player myself I’m very excited about offering such a great opportunity for the local community to get involved in an exciting, fun and extremely social sport. I’m also hoping to attend a few sessions myself so will be a great opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts and beginners alike.’
