Better’s Hammersmith Fitness and Squash Centre are set to be the start and finish point for GoodGym - a unique approach to building community cohesion, promoting fitness and reducing social isolation.

Everyone wants to get fit these days, and rightly so, so why not harness all that energy into doing social good? The weekly runs are free and open to all abilities, combining a short run with a physical task. Runners if they wish can also be paired with an isolated older person and commit to visit them each week. For more information on the launch event and first run on Tuesday 6th September, and to get involved, visit: https://www.goodgym.org/happenings/goodgym-hammersmith-fulham-launch

The creation of this new GoodGym has been made possible through the support of Hammersmith and Fulham Council. Led by running coach Anna Mercer a group will be running each week from to help community organisations all over the area. Anna is thrilled to be launching this new group in her local area:

“Running has always been a huge part of my life. As a coach I love helping runners - from complete novice through to seasoned runner - improve their fitness, speed and technique. Being able to incorporate this with helping charities is fantastic combination. I have often struggled to find volunteering opportunities that fitted with my life - GoodGym gives runners an opportunity to help out and see the wide variety of wonderful charities in the borough whilst also getting fit - the perfect mix!"

In addition to the weekly group runs organised by Anna some runners will also visit isolated older members of the community as part of their workouts in an intergenerational befriending scheme proven to reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing.

GoodGym Hammersmith and Fulham will meet every Tuesday, 18.45 at Better’s Hammersmith Fitness & Squash Centre. The group will be leaving at 7pm sharp. There will be lockers (please bring a refundable £1 coin) to leave bags in when out on the run.

GoodGym welcomes runners of all ability and would love to hear from you if you are interested in getting involved. Sign up on the website: www.goodgym.org for more information.
