Charitable social enterprise and the UK’s largest leisure operator is set to support Hammersmith and Fulham athletes in 2018 through their athlete support programme, the ‘GLL Sport Foundation’.

The GLL Sport Foundation is an athlete focused support programme providing athletes across the UK with tangible support to aid their sports performance, support includes training membership access to over three hundred venues across the UK, access to physio and injury rehab support and financial awards up to the value of £1,250.

Applications for athletes are open until 20th February 2018 via the website portal – www.gllsportfoundation.org

The Foundation is directly aligned to National Governing Body of sport talent pathways, and with National partnerships with SportsAid and the Mary Peters Trust it ensures that the right awards are provided to the right athletes at the right time

These partnerships ensure that the Foundation can make most impact to athletes that are transitioning from national to international level. With 74% of athletes being aged under twenty one and 87% of athletes receiving no other funding support, the impact of the Foundation is significant.

Supported Hammersmith and Fulham athlete and swimming star Spencer Williams explained: “The support that the GLL sport foundation has given me over the past few years has been incredible, and I really appreciate receiving it again this year. The membership to GLL centres means that I can get in additional training in a long course pool at Crystal Palace, which really helps in my preparation for nationals and other important long course competitions. The money that the award provides means that I am able to buy a new racing swimsuit, which is essential to compete at the highest level, and it will also contribute to the very expensive travel and accommodation for competitions up in Sheffield. My goal is to make it onto the GB junior team, and this award would definitely help me along the way. In the long term, my dream is to make it to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.”
