An extensive refurbishment programme is now underway at Streatham Ice and Leisure Centre, with a £300,000 programme to improve equipment and facilities, including the installation of new studio space, as well as upgrades to the gym area - including brand new, state-of-the-art fitness equipment.

Working in partnership with Lambeth Council, leisure operator Better – the customer brand of GLL, the UK’s largest leisure charitable social enterprise, exists to offer a wide range of inclusive, affordable facilities for the whole community – allowing more people to be more active more often.

At Streatham, work has already begun to develop an under-used changing area, into a brand new flexible usage studio to facilitate activities including, for the first time, hot yoga sessions.

The improvement programme will also include the introduction of a High Intensity Interval Training Zone (HIIT), complete with the latest in strength and functional equipment.

Upgrades will also be made to equipment in the main gym area.

In addition, improvements will also be made to changing areas, bringing them in-line with Better’s modern look and feel.

Simon Sen, Regional Director at GLL said: “We are delighted to begin works at Streatham Ice and Leisure Centre. We are committed to getting more people more active more often and understand the valuable role Better leisure centres play in the communities they serve.

“Streatham offers more than just the conventional gym. The hugely improved centre will provide an extensive variety of health and fitness activities – including for the first time Hot Yoga - complete with market leading equipment, to offer an outstanding, affordable and accessible service, for all ages and abilities.

“We look forward to welcoming both new and existing customers to the new and improved centre in the new year.”
