Wimbledon Leisure Centre & Spa’s Alana Pash has competed at the recent British Bench Press Championships, held at Stanhope Hall in Horncastle. Following a successful performance on the day she was selected to represent Team GB as part of the British Bench Press Squad, at the World Bench Press Championships, which will be held in South Africa this April.

Alana currently holds the British record in the British Drug Free Powerlifting Association and is now the National Champion in the only other tested and highly prestigious federation in the UK.

Alana is also a fully qualified weightlifting coach at Better Wimbledon Leisure Centre & Spa’s in-house Weightlifting Club, Merton Weightlifting Club. Alana coaches alongside Martin Marshall, who was also selected to represent Team GB in South Africa and expressed how proud he was to have been selected for the Team GB Squad, saying,

'‘I’m over the moon to have been selected to represent Team GB, myself and Alana are really looking forward to representing our country in South Africa and will give our best to bring home a medal for team GB’’.

Wimbledon Leisure Centre & Spa’s Merton Weightlifting Club boasts an array of talented young weightlifters, Stefano Cataldi at just 14 years old won gold at the Youth Weightlifting Championships this month and Mahmoud Shaheedn 16, will be joining him in the British weightlifting youth talent squad. What’s more, Diell Zejnullahu 18, has been accepted onto the Kosovan National team for Olympic Weightlifting after winning the under 18 World Bench Press last year.

Weightlifting sessions are open to all members at Better’s Wimbledon Leisure Centre & Spa and take place every week on Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays.
