Swimathon, the world’s biggest fundraising swim in the UK was once again supported by Better Leisure Centres in Cumbria last weekend. Swimmers at Better, Kendal Leisure Centre raised over £800 at the event which supports Marie Curie, who are the UK’s leading charity for people with terminal illness. All fundraising makes a huge difference to those who deeply rely upon the care, guidance and support of Marie Curie nurses.

General Manager Darren Eccles said, "A massive well done to everyone that took part in this year's Swimathon.  It was another great event with participants swimming over 800 lengths."

Since the event began 30 years ago, Swimathon has been encouraging swimmers throughout the UK to swim a distance challenge. Since then, their mission of uniting swimmers through challenges and fundraising has prompted more than half a million swimmers to take part at their local pools, and so far over £46m has been raised to support charitable causes.  The event caters for all levels of fitness, ability and all ages, so everyone can join in!  Swimmers can take on the Individual 1.5k, 2.5k or 5k challenges or they can join forces with colleagues, friends or family members for the Team 1.5k and 5k.

Here at Better, we have teamed up with Swimathon for a number of years and are a destination for those wanting to achieve their goals.  We have such a great range of pools, which are open and highly accessible to everyone so you can get those practice lengths in and get ready for next year's event. Our Better Swim membership comes packed with opportunities to help you along the way, including use of over 90 UK wide pools so you’ll always be able to find a Better leisure centre near you.  It is excellent value for anyone training and swimming regularly, to sign up click here
