Canoeing and Kayaking
Windermere Outdoor Adventure Centre holds the British Canoeing Activity Provider Quality Mark.
British Canoeing is the national governing body for canoeing and kayaking. We run a variety of courses, from introductory sessions and guided tours to specialist skills for those wishing to progress through the British Canoeing star award scheme. So whatever your age or ability, we would love you to come along and give paddlesports a go!
All canoeing and kayaking activities are delivered under the guidance of British Canoeing qualified and experienced instructors in a relaxed, safe and friendly environment.
We have a variety of craft available for you to try, including sit-on-top kayaks, Pyranha master kayaks, Prospector canoes, Necky Blunt, Eskimo diablo and Robson moonsters.
We also hire out our Sit on top kayaks for those of you who want to create your own adventure on the lake!
The following British Canoeing courses are on offer at the centre:
1 Star Award, 2 Star Award, Paddlepower Start, Paddlepower Passport.
Taster, half day and full day sessions
You can book a taster session for a couple of hours in kayaking or canoeing, or join us for a full day and learn the basics with one of our fully qualified instructors. You can also work towards qualifications. Please see our programme page for programmed taster sessions. You can also book private tuition, please see our watersports private tuition page.
Go Canoeing Guided Tours
Whether you are a complete beginner or experienced with a paddle, our guided tours are a great way to get out on the water and share an amazing day of fabulous scenery with family or friends. You may venture up the Troutbeck River or explore the islands, maybe find a beach and have a go at bushcraft. Please see our programme page for guided tour dates. Alternatively if you're a group of four or more we can arrange a tour on another date to suit you.
Five Week and Two Day Courses
Five Week Courses
Throughout the season we offer regular five week courses in paddlesports, leading to qualifications and free membership to our Activity Club. These courses are a more progressive way of learning, with two hours of tuition every week for five weeks. Once you have completed the course you can practise what you've learnt at our activity club sessions. Again, we will try to accommodate groups of four or more on alternative dates to suit.
Two day Courses
The courses on offer at the centre can be completed in two full days of activity, by those with the recommended pre-requisite experience. These can be booked privately at any time. If you would prefer to join a group, please ask to be added to our list of interested parties and we will schedule a course around demand. Completion of the course gives free membership of our Activity Club.
