Better Gym Mitcham has undergone an extensive refurbishment, with a £327,000 programme to improve equipment and facilities.
GLL – the UK’s largest leisure charitable social enterprise, acquired the former FitSpace site in 2016, to operate under its customer brand, Better. Work has now been completed to make improvements to the building and its facilities - bringing the centre’s look and feel up to date in line with the Better brand’s 250 plus facilities across the UK, making a more attractive experience for gym users.
The 12-week programme included significant investment to improve the building – giving the reception and gym areas a refreshed look, as well as fast track secure entry technology to banish queues during peak times. In addition, the gym floor has been reconfigured and renovated, with new lighting and decoration throughout – as well as the removal of a number of partitions to create a larger, open-plan workout area.
This development has allowed the installation of over £140,000 worth of strength and functional equipment – including free weights, boxing pads, gloves and bags – in addition to a brand new speed track and sledge.
James Brackenborough, Partnership Manager at GLL said: “Better Gym Mitcham is the most recent and welcome addition to the Better Gym family. We are applying over 20 years of experience as the UK’s largest public leisure operator to improve this ever-popular local facility. This significant investment will raise the quality of the facilities and the overall customer experience of Better Gym Mitcham – with the overall aim of making more people more active, more often.
“Fortunately, the gym remained open throughout the programme and we thank our members for their patience during this time. We look forward to welcoming both new and existing customers to the new and improved centre.”
