Disability Sport NI launched the District Council Disability Sports Hub Project at Girdwood Community Hub recently. The £500,000 project is funded by the Department for Communities through Sport NI as part of the Active Living: No Limits 2021 Action Plan to improve health and wellbeing of people living with disabilities in Northern Ireland through participation in sport and active recreation. At the launch DSNI were joined by distinguished guests, council officials, MLAs and representatives from the Active Living: No Limits Action Plan including Department for Communities, Sport NI, Department for Health, Disability Action and the Northern Ireland Sports Forum. All eleven district council areas in Northern Ireland received disability sports equipment packs and the Belfast council's full equipment pack was on display at Girdwood for sporting demonstrations with participation from school children and disability sport athletes.

Chief Executive of Disability Sport NI spoke about how the accessibility of the new equipment will make a huge difference in helping get more people with disabilities active in every area of Northern Ireland.

We are delighted to announce that Girdwood Community Hub will be one of the disability sports hubs within the Belfast council helping to support and encourage local people, bringing about positive change to the social, recreational and sporting life of people living with disabilities
