The Easter holidays saw King's Hall Leisure Centre run free swimming lessons for families. The sessions were a huge hit with 336 people attending between 3rd & 7th April 2017. Many of the participants were attending swimming lessons for the first time; and included a group of teenagers who started as complete beginners and progressed to being able to swim 25m.
The sessions are run in partnership with BETTER and Hackney Council, and are available to anyone aged 4+. The aim is to make swimming as accessible as possible for the local community and providing a great introduction in developing an important life skill. Many participants thereafter attend multiple sessions or move into regular swimming lessons at the centre.
Sera Terry, General Manager at King's Hall Leisure Centre states “It's great to see so many local people enjoying themselves while learning to swim. The progress made by some of the swimmers during the week is amazing”.
If you missed the free lessons over the Easter Holiday, don’t worry there will be another chance to attend over the school Summer holiday. Sessions will run 10am-12pm Monday to Friday over two weeks from 24th July to 4th August. There is no need to book in advance, just turn up and have fun!
