All updates and information about all the exciting developments will be displayed on this page. Alternatively, please speak to a staff member when you next visit one of our centres in Barnet.

New Centre builds

As part of a £41.5million council investment, and an award of £2million National Lottery funding from Sport England, Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre will be redeveloped, creating a new facility for the community.

Church Farm Leisure Centre will also be replaced with a new leisure centre in Victoria Recreation Ground; New Barnet which replaces the The Victoria Recreation Ground facility. This will also include a partnership library, which will replace the current East Barnet Library.

Work on both leisure centres is expected to be completed by summer 2019 with the existing Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre and Church Farm Leisure Centre remaining open as normal until the new facilities have been completed.

Healthwise Programme

In partnership with Barnet Council, Better offer a range of specialist health intervention programmes, aimed at supporting people to get physically active. These include:

  • Physical Activity Referral
  • Adult Weight Management
  • Child Weight Management (school referrals only)

Health professionals can refer patients to a physical activity programme designed for individuals with existing health conditions as well as those at risk of developing health conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension and depression, who would benefit from specialist support to become and remain more active.

The programme has been designed to help participants to increase their knowledge, skills and confidence, and improve their health and wellbeing, incorporating one to one assessments, behaviour change techniques and individual tailoring of activity plans – all offered at a low cost to participants.

Nursery facility

An investment of £319,000 will be used to create 2 brand new nursery areas at Burnt Oak leisure centre. The early years child care provision will have the capacity to cater for up to 69 children at one time, 45 of the spaces being open for children 2 and under through enhancing the size and quality of the current crèche area. A new room catering for 3-5 year olds is also being developed. Having the nursery located at one of our leisure centres creates the unique opportunity to include physical activity into children’s learning and development.
