B40 Youth Dance Company is a contemporary dance programme managed and based at Academy Performing Arts (Royal Arsenal) providing technical training and performance experiences for aspiring young dancers in South East London. Concluding what has been a very busy year of studio rehearsals and projects, B40YDC have just completed their programme of Summer performances, performing to a wide variety of audiences across London receiving excellent feedback for their professionalism, skills and spirit!

Following a successful first performance in March at RichDance 2019, the company have been performing Carnival!, choreographed by B40YDC Artistic Director, Julian Lewis. Carnival! is a fresh and vibrant contemporary dance, inspired by social Latin dances and set to percussive and rhythmic music. The piece was performed at the opening night of Greenwich+Docklands International Festival in Woolwich, the Thrive Youth Dance Festival at the Millfield Theatre in North London, the Greenwich Dance Jamboree in Eltham as well as our homes studios at Academy Performing Arts (Royal Arsenal).

As well as performing Carnival!, B40YDC were invited to join several other local dance groups to perform in a special segment of Transe Express' Cristal Palace - a spectacular show combining dance, music and acrobatics that formed the finale of the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival's opening night. The company were privileged to work with London-based Mass Movement Director, Jeanefer Jean-Charles who devised this section with new and sampled music from DJ Walde. B40YDC would also like to thank Elizabeth and the GDIF team, Dance Captains, Brittany Roberts & Sophie Arstall, and of course our Artistic Director, Julian Lewis, Project Assistant, Catrin Lewis of Traceworks Dance and Ali Steele and the Academy Performing Arts team for their support on this fantastic project.
