At the start of October, we were host to the first Memory Walk West Cumbria in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. The event was organised by one of our staff, Catherine Coulson, and it was a fantastic day (the sun even made an appearance!). There were about 50 participants and the event raised £1,437.10!
Off the back of the Memory Walk we are now involved in the setting up of a Dementia Action Alliance for Maryport, working alongside representatives from Cumbria County Council, Allerdale Borough Council, Maryport Town Council, Age UK, Castle Hill Trust, Ewanrigg Community Centre and the local churches. The aim being to make Maryport a welcoming dementia friendly town.
In mid-October we were the venue for an ADHD Awareness Day. Put on by ADHD West Cumbria and the children’s charity Owl Blue, the event was a huge success with over 80 professionals and parents attending. Everyone involved agreed the day went brilliantly! During October and November, we have also had special sessions in our climbing arena for children with Autism and their carers and also for ICAAN (Independent Community Autism Activity Network).
We’ve also been instrumental in raising funds for the Maryport Inshore Rescue - full story and photo to follow!
