The Bath Boules Trust have provided funding for new easy access steps to improve swimming participation at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre.

The Bath Boules Trust distribute funds raised from the annual Bath Boules event to a range of local charities, totalling nearly £350,000 to date.

The bespoke easy access swimming pool steps, which cost over £2,000, descend gradually forward and down into the water. The previous steps descended at a much steeper angle which could be a challenge for some swimmers and be a potential barrier for using the pool.

General Manager of Bath Sports and Leisure Centre Barnaby Rich said "We're extremely grateful to the Bath Boules Trust for funding these new access steps. We have listened to customer feedback and we make changes where we can to improve the experience of our customers. Purchasing the pool steps this year would not have been possible without the funding from the Bath Boules Trust".

Mark Harrison, GLL's Community Sports Manager for Bath and North East Somerset added "Small changes to equipment can make big differences to people's exercise habits as well as their enjoyment of their activity. This change has been welcomed by our existing swimmers and we hope it will encourage new participants to increase their activity levels and come for a swim in the newly refurbished pool."

The Trust said "Bath Boules Charitable Trust is delighted to provide this much needed piece of equipment to allow those with reduced mobility to have enjoyable and rewarding exercise in the pool. This project is one of the many local good causes supported by the annual Bath Boules event in Queen Square where teams from across our community have plenty of fun and also raise great sums for local charities”.
