Better staff and volunteers have continued to be busy dealing with the fallout during lockdown, supporting local communities.

Wandsworth Librarians have joined the Council’s Community Hub and have fielded 7,000 calls already, providing practical support arranging food and medicine deliveries, signposting to other local services including Battersea Coronavirus Angels and the Southfields Grid Alliance and, of course, NHS 111.  For many elderly people in isolation, the service is a lifeline, providing a friendly listening ear to those who are lonely, scared or sad.

Rainbow Leisure Centre in Surrey - who last month arranged donations of PPE to NHS and resource centres – has furloughed its staff but now some are volunteering with their local Community Hub, serving thousands of vulnerable people – including safe visits to the elderly at home, delivering food and medicines.

In Bromley, a Better staff member is the latest to be called-up as a NHS Responder Volunteer, delivering vital medication to those under the Government’s ‘shielding’ programme.

Lockdown is making for some community challenges but also making some community heroes.

Better will continue to ‘do it’s bit’ during the crisis and until we can re-open again.
