The event of the season!

The weekend of 11th March 2022 Cambridge Ice Arena saw the second historic Cambridge V Oxford ice hockey varsity games.

After the unfortunate cancellation of the 2021 event due to COVID, it was brought back bigger and better than ever.

Starting on Friday 11th March with Cambridge's Narwhals taking on the Oxford Vikings saw our home team win 9-3! The game was fast paced and full of action, with a few punch ups along the way too.

Saturday 12th March saw our biggest turn out ever. Every seat was full, with people also standing on the mezzanine. The evening started with the Cambridge women's light blues take on the Oxford Women's dark blues. Victory for Cambridge as the final score was 6-3.

The second game of Saturday night saw the Cambridge Men's light blues take on the Oxford men's dark blues. This game brought the trophy home with another win with the final score being 4-2 to Cambridge.

Sunday 13th March was a quieter game day with the Cambridge Huskies taking on the Oxford Vikings B team and later on the Cambridge V Oxford alumni game; both games were won by Oxford.

However even with the Sunday losses Cambridge still took home the trophy for the 5th year in a row.

Cambridge Ice Arena now has an alcohol license which means the bar was fully stocked and open for business. The café was prepped and all of the staff were absolutely amazing and ensured the event went smoothly.

The Cambridge V Oxford Varsity happens every year and is taken in turn between us and Oxford to host, which means next year it will be away at the Oxford ice rink. Although we won’t be with them on site for the next event, we will be cheering them on from their hometown for another win next year.

If you missed the event then you have a chance to watch the Saturday games via the University’s Youtube channel. Search for camunisport to watch the action.

We look forward to hosting again in 2024!
