We’re urging parents to send their young children under five years old to swimming lessons we launch enhanced swimming lessons for children of a pre-school age.

With drowning still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children, being able to swim is an essential life-saving skill.  More and more children in school haven’t gained sufficient skills in the water to participate fully in swimming activity and are losing out as they haven’t had swimming lessons.

Therefore our Better leisure centres in Cardiff have opened up more spaces than ever on our pre-school programme and we’re offering an introductory discount for the first month of membership. Eighteen classes based at all seven of our swimming pools across the city are specifically designed to help develop water confidence and swimming techniques in a fun and friendly environment with toddlers of a similar age. The maximum class size is eight.

Dawn Pinder, Partnership Manager at Better Cardiff, said:

“Swimming is the only sports activity that can save a person’s life, so the earlier a child learns how to swim the better.   Age three upwards is the time to start children on their swimming journey and joining a class is a positive and practical solution.

“Swimming is also lots of fun for children, they love getting in the water and enjoying themselves.  Swimming is an activity that children of any age or ability can take part in and is more accessible for children with additional needs than almost any other sport. Learning to swim also opens up the door to a range of other activities. kayaking, surfing and yachting are just a few sports a child can only do if they can swim.”

Parents can track their child’s swimming lesson progress online via our home portal to  keep you up to date with your child’s achievements from a smart phone, tablet or computer, wherever your are.
