Aimee Willmott, who is from the North East of England has enjoyed a glittering competitive swimming career. She has won a string of medals at the European Championships and Commonwealth games including a gold in 2018 and she was a finalist in the Rio Olympics. She will compete in her final olympics in the 400m Individual Medley in Tokyo this year.
On Sunday 20th June, Aimee delivered a masterclass at the Pools for Carlisle Aquatics Club Swimmers.
The pool work focused on tips for enhancing technique which everyone really enjoyed, learning skills they can work on in their weekly training. In addition to this, Aimee did an online session giving practical guidance on simple lifestyle adjustments participants can make to enhance their performance. This covered a range of topics from diet, social life activity, when to rest around School and swimming commitments. Mental Health was a key focal point, providing tips for how to deal with injuries, cancelled events, performance expectaions and developing the winning midset to overcome these issues, staying focused on personal goals.
Mike Harrison, Chair for Carlisle Aquatics stated that the swimmers loved the session. Picking up tips from an Olympic standard competitive winner was very inspirational to the kids and the coaches. The session created a very positive atmosphere and we have received lots of positive feedback from club members, parents and the Better staff. We hope to work with Aimee again in the future, in the meantime we wish her well in the Tokyo Olympics.
