On Saturday 28th September Academy Performing Arts (APA) held its very first open day at the Eltham Centre which was very well attended by over 200 people from the local community. Many of whom expressed their interest in our dance, drama, musical theatre and one to one music tuition.
The opening performance consisted of a live saxophone piece from 14 year old Evie Cooper and a Grade 5 Flute piece by 13 year old Sophia Gkatsou.
Other highlights included….
Our Ballet performance to Vivaldi’s ‘Summer’ by Grade 5 & 6 students, Alana Samuels 17 years, Ly-an Truong 14 years, Anna Mahon 15 years, Phoebe Wright 13 years with music performed Live by Edmund Taylor one of the centres music teachers.
A Tap solo from Mariaelisa Gbalou 13 years to love yourself covered by ‘post modern juke box’ finished off with our senior commercial team Anna Mahon 15 years, Phoebe Wright 13 years, Claudia Wright 12 years, Mariaelisa Gbalou 13 years, Jiya Hanspal 13 years.
Across the day our students demonstrated various dance styles including Jazz, street, ballet, contemporary & hip hop.
The audience and students that performed thoroughly enjoyed the day and the opportunity to perform. The Eltham centre also held a HIIT Extreme Interval fitness class for adults and a free family swim.
The event was attended by Councillor Miranda Williams, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and the Third Sector, Councillor Linda Bird. (Deputy Mayor), Tracey Sage, Senior Culture, Tourism and Heritage Manger, and Richard Gallagher, Partnership Manager for Better.
