Better Leisure Centres continue to support local community resilience operations across the UK working in partnership with NHS, local authorities and food charities.

In Belfast, where the City Hospital operates rehabilitation programmes within Better’s leisure centres across the city, Better staff already enjoy an established and successful link with the local NHS and were happy to make a small donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Belfast City Hospital is now designated “Nightingale” status – a reflection of its strategic importance in the frontline response to fighting COVID-19.

Better Belfast General Managers Peter McMonagle and Kerry Craze delivered two boxes of assorted PPE to the Belfast Nightingale Hospital. The Belfast Health Trust representative who accepted the donation said:  “This is excellent and much appreciated, we can’t thank you enough”.

Elsewhere, in London last week Better Staff collected 115,000 of items of PPE and presented them to the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.  David Lawson, Chief Procurement Officer said: “We are very grateful for their very generous donation.”

This week, Copper Box Arena and London Aquatics Centre in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park collected and delivered over 90 cases of soft drinks and 400 bags of snacks to a local food hub charity Community Food Enterprise (CFE) Ltd in Newham. The unused stock was sourced from social enterprise catering provider BHLive which runs the concessions in both venues.

Eric Samuel of Community Food Enterprise Ltd said:  “We are very grateful to social enterprises BH Live and Better for their donation to CFE’s Food Distribution Hub.  Every contribution allows us to provide some extra support for families in need in Newham.”
