13 members of staff from Better libraries in Wandsworth are now supporting the borough’s Community Resilience programme.

Library staff Frances, Liz, Patrick, Gillian, Beatrix, Courtney, Imogen, Sigrid, Abdul, Tim, Adam, Ayesha and Caroline have joined the Covid19 customer call team to provide first point of contact for the elderly and vulnerable and are organising food parcel deliveries, giving advice and providing a friendly voice for people to talk to during this difficult time.

With everyone pulling together to look after the wider community – many of whom are confined to home under the ‘shielding programme’ – the Wandsworth Community Hub has been set up by the council and local charity volunteers.

Better Library staff are providing much needed relief to ease the pressure as the service comes under high demand and importantly extra tlc on a phoneline for some residents who are upset and need reassurance.

Frances Craig, Manager of Putney Library said:

“We have been getting some wonderfully positive feedback from grateful callers – and even a marriage proposal!

“We are always busy with calls and while very spread out in the building can wave at each other from a safe distance which is lovely.”
