Metro Blind Sport have partnered with Goalball UK, Sportworks, Ealing Council and GLL to deliver multiple sport and physical activity opportunities for blind and partially sighted people.

 

Delivered at the brand-new Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub in West London, sessions will be FREE and taking place every week on a Sunday, 2pm till 4pm beginning from 11th July.

 

Metro Blind Sport launched its ‘Seeing the benefit of exercise’ project today thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund and is inviting Londoners to sign up. The project welcomes blind and partially sighted people of all ages and abilities from West London to engage in a variety of different sports. The sessions will include, football, tennis, goalball, cricket as well as many other activities throughout the year.

 

The ‘Seeing the benefit of exercise’ project will be 2-hour weekly session on a Sunday afternoon, led by qualified coaches in a covid secure environment. The sports are all adapted specifically for blind and partially sighted people, using adapted equipment, and will rotate on a weekly basis to provide as much opportunity as possible for people to try new things. For the first 3 months of July, August, and September, check out the weekly schedule below for what will be taking place:

 

Week 1: 11th July – FOOTBALL     Week 5: 8th August – FOOTBALL       Week 9: 5th September – FOOTBALL

Week 2: 18th July – TENNIS           Week 6: 15th August – GOALBALL     Week 10: 12th September – GOALBALL

Week 3: 25th July – GOALBALL     Week 7: 22nd August – TENNIS          Week 11: 19th September – TENNIS

Week 4: 1st August – CRICKET      Week 8: 29th August – CRICKET        Week 12: 26th September – CRICKET

This past year has highlighted just how important it is to be active, and we know that disabled people have been hit hardest by the pandemic. So we want to make our facility as welcoming as possible for blind and partially sighted people.  We are delighted to welcome Metro Blind Sport as one of the first customers into the new Gunnersbury Park facility.
