Josephine Cox, Older Adults and Dementia Co-ordinator hosted a ‘My Way Memory Walk’ on Wednesday 14th August at Hackney Downs Park. The walk was organised in order to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society and also as a social activity for the older adults and dementia programmes.
14 people attended the walk despite the torrential rain on the day. The 3km walk consisted of 2 laps around the whole park (no shortcuts); this is a total of 6000 steps. The walk was completed in great spirits and everyone who took part finished the full distance. So far the walk has raised £300 which will help fund new research and provide precious support to people affected by dementia.
There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. This is predicted to soar to 2 million by 2051. There is still time to donate using the link below.
