The Platinum Jubilee Leisure Centre opened its doors to residents for a highly successful community Open Weekend, attracting more than 2,100 visitors across two days and showcasing the centre's extensive range of facilities and activities.
Held on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May, the event offered a variety of free taster sessions designed to encourage residents to explore everything the leisure centre has to offer.
Activities included gym access, fitness classes, Clip 'n Climb sessions, soft play, badminton, pickleball, basketball and football drop-in sessions, as well as Swimbies swimming lessons for parents and young children. The response from the community exceeded expectations, with many activities reaching full capacity.
Attendance figures are estimated at around 1,200 visitors on Saturday and 900 on Sunday, highlighting the strong local interest in the centre and its growing role as a hub for health, wellbeing and community engagement.
Several local organisations and community groups participated in the event, including Primary Sporting Development (PSD), West Drayton Wings Basketball Club and a Stroke Awareness information stand, helping to promote community health, sport and inclusion.
The new Leader of the Council, Councillor Steve Tuckwell, attended on Saturday alongside Councillor Wayne Brydges. Both councillors were given a tour of the facilities by centre staff and management and spent time speaking with residents and users throughout the day.
The Open Weekend demonstrated the centre's growing popularity and highlighted its commitment to providing accessible, high-quality leisure opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities.
