The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) Drowning Prevention Week is upon us from the 15 – 25th June 2018 and here at Chelsea Sports Centre we’re proud to be getting involved!

With 18 million annual swim visits across more than 140 Better facilities across the UK, we recognise the importance of water safety (particularly with the upcoming summer holidays), and think you should too!

We believe, whether its poolside, beaches, rivers or lakes, it’s important that you and your family are aware of how to have fun and stay safe in, and around water. That’s why, throughout Drowning Prevention Week, we will be leading water safety-focussed swimming lessons ahead of the summer holidays. Pupils will not only be taught how to swim but also learn how to spot the hazards and dangers when it comes to being around water.

Emma Lewis, Senior Aquatics Manager at Better said: “As the largest provider of public pools in the UK, 385,000 prepaid adult members have access to our pools and 136,000 pupils attending our weekly Swim School lessons– as well as many other adults and children that regularly visit our facilities. As such, it is crucial that we ensure that we, alongside RLSS UK, champion the importance of water safety.

With our Better School’s Swimming Programme, we have a strong commitment to raising standards and influencing the relevant people to enable us to make a lasting change. School swimming lessons as part of the National Curriculum offer a great opportunity to teach every child to swim and to be safe around water, whilst learning this fundamental life skill.”
