An innovative scheme to support young athletes in Kensington and Chelsea has helped propel two Kensington-based ice dancers to PyeongChang as part of the Team GB Ambition Programme Winter Olympics.

Kensington’s Lilah Fear, 18, along with ice dancing partner Lewis Gibson, 24, have been supported by funding and mentoring through the GLL Sport Foundation, which works with the Council to help young athletes reach their potential.

Lilah and Lewis have travelled to Pyeongchang and are on the cusp of their own Olympic success as part of Team GB’s official reserves for Ice Dance. The support squad travels with the Olympic athletes and stays with them at the Olympic village.

The GLL Sport Foundation works in partnership with the Council to provide support for young athletes in Kensington and Chelsea.

Young athletes can access a range of useful support through the scheme. This includes access to 300+ training venues like Kensington Leisure Centre and Chelsea Sports Centre, access to physio support, financial assistance, rehabilitation, coaching and mentoring, and sport science workshops.

This is part of the GLL Sport Foundation’s nationwide programme that is supporting 3,000 young athletes with tangible support to reach their potential in 2018.

Other young athletes in Kensington and Chelsea inspired by Lilah and Lewis’s story can apply for the same support through the GLL Foundation. Applications for funding are open until Tuesday 20 February.
