GLL Sport Foundation (GSF), in partnership with Lambeth Council’s Gifted and Talented Programme, supports talented athletes who live, train, or are educated in the borough. 2019/20 saw 108 athletes funded with £59,700 worth of support. All the athletes are local and many use Better facilities, whether that is for their sports sessions or their strength & conditioning and fitness training.

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – OCTOBER 2019

We are pleased to announce that the October Athlete of the Month winner is Simon Randerson (Swimming). Impressively, Simon picked up 4 Silver and 2 Bronze medals at the recent World Transplant Games in a range of distances and strokes. This was then followed up with an excellent 2nd place finish at an international competition on 29th September. The World Transplant Games involved over 50 countries that sent in excess of 2,500 athletes to the multi sport event therefore revealing a fantastic achievement.

OTHER RESULTS

INTERNATIONAL: Rebecca Goodwin (Triathlon) secured a superb silver medal at the World Triathlon Grand Final in the 30-34 AG Sprint category, which was held Lausanne. Nick Flower (Triathlon) also competed in the same competition, continuing his fine form with an excellent 11th place finish in the 30-34 Male AG Sprint category. Kace Bartley (Squash) competed in HKFC PSA International Squash Open 2019 in Hong Kong achieving a new world ranking of 79th.

Alexandra Snowdon (Ice Skating) has just returned from her first international competition of the new speed skating season. She competed at the International French Trophy in Paris winning the gold medal for the U14 Ladies category. Over the two day competition she achieved season best times meaning she has a world ranking of 14th in the 500m and 20th in the 1000m - A wonderful start to the season.

NATIONAL: Flora Perkins (Cycling) achieved an excellent 4th place in the Revolve 24 Youth National Series securing 8 points and secured a new national rank of 6th. Fellow Lambeth cyclist Oliver Wollaston finished 9th place in the SE Junior Road Race Series - gaining 7 points towards his national total with a superb performance. Mallory Cluley (Athletics) won silver in the UK Youth Development League Final which was held at Sportcity in Manchester. Mallory ran in the 100HW and recorded a time of 14.20 seconds, just outside her PB – a fantastic performance competing amongst the nations very best. Ore Adamson (Athletics) capped a superb summer season by winning gold meal at the South of England Inter County Championships competing as a first year U20.

SELECTION: Hal Jones (Fencing) has been selected by British Fencing to represent the U17 GBR cadet team where his first competition is in Budapest on 6th October.
