On Friday 25th March Glass Mill Leisure Centre were proud to be the hosts of the annual Lewisham Primary School Gala. More than 170 swimmers from 17 of the Borough’s primary schools arrived at Glass Mill Leisure Centre to compete in this year’s event. Organised by Saxon Crown Swimming Club and funded by Lewisham Council GLL were more than happy to be able to help and we provided pool space and staff free of charge.

Both GLL and Saxon Crown wish to thank all school swimmers and their teachers who helped make it such a wonderful afternoon of swimming. The staff at Glass Mill would also like to extend their thanks to the coaches and club volunteers for ensuring the day ran smoothly and successfully.

All swimmers and teams gave an excellent accounts of themselves, not just in their swimming performance but the support they gave their team mates and sportingly, the applause for children from other school teams. With a viewing gallery full of spectators, it very much was business as normal

Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded those who placed first, second and third places in each event.  Best girl trophies were presented to Lily Babuccu of Gordonbrock (Year 5) and Sia Kenton of St Bartholomew’s (Year 6) and best boy trophies went to Mack Atanda of Sandhurst (Year 5) and Ayotunde Dauda of St Dunstan’s (Year 6), presented by Heilco van der Ploeg, Chair of Saxon Crown Swimming Club.  Finally - a huge congratulations to St Dunstan’s who won the Shield for best school.

Overall the event was a massive success and lots of fun for all who attended and we look forward to a repeat next year.
