Pre-school children wanted to understand volcanoes at nursery so we thought the best way to do this was to engage in discussions and explore the questions they asked. The children created their own volcano out of paper-mache and paint. Once it had dried they poured bicarbonate of soda, food colouring, and white vinegar into the volcano and waited for it to erupt. The children then asked if they could make their own mini volcanoes, which they did but this time out of clay.
