Tiller Leisure Centre initially remained closed when lockdown restrictions were eased, because the age and layout of the building made it extremely difficult to operate in a Covid-secure and financially sustainable way.
Safety remains our top priority and the enforced closure allowed maintenance checks to be carried out and these highlighted a series of age-related problems connected to the pool tank, the poolside area, the plant room and most crucially given the current situation, the air handling system.
Working in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council we have started a programme of remedial works to tackle these issues. Once completed this will allow the leisure centre to reopen safely, with a full programme of activities on offer to local residents. We expect to reach this point by early 2022.
In the meantime, customers can access all other Better leisure centres within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets
