The annual Waltham Forest Mela festival took place on the 4th August at Leyton Jubilee Park which was a new venue and a bigger site than Chestnut Fields where the event is usually held.
This allowed for 1 stage and a new performance area which including a fashion show and spoken word events to continue to celebrate Waltham Forest being the Borough of Culture 2019.
The event saw over 10,000 people attend and stall holders came from all over the borough to celebrate not only Asian culture but the diversity of the borough through music, food and activities.
We attended in an outreach capacity and signposted young people and families to sporting events on offer during the course of the day.
The event staff were managed by Kerry Webb who led from the front in gaining leads and speaking passionately to the local community about Leyton Leisure Centre and the activities available.
