Better staff, centres and projects have featured heavily among the finalists for the ukactive Awards 2018, shortlisted 18 times across eight categories.

The awards ceremony is due to take place in June at Active Uprising, ukactive’s new multi-day celebration of physical activity, which replaces the long-established Flame Conference and Awards format.

Better, the customer brand of GLL, the UK’s largest leisure charitable social enterprise, has seen 11 of its facilities shortlisted for National Club/Centre of the Year.

Two Better centres were named among the finalists for the Healthy Communities, while the organisation’s tennis programme made the shortlist for the New Concept prize.

There was also individual recognition for three Better leisure centre staff, with Annalisa Cellini, Oliver Stacey and Gill Smith named among the finalists in the Physical Activity Champion, Outstanding Lead and Unsung Hero categories, respectively.

Lorraine Patrinos, Associate Director of Learning & Organisational Development at GLL, said: “On behalf of our brilliant staff and many customers, we are delighted to be so prominent among the finalists for the ukactive Awards.

“At GLL, we firmly believe that our greatest asset is our people and the number of finalists outlines the hard work and dedication of our colleagues across the country, to ensure that our facilities and services get more people more active, more often.

“We’re now keeping our fingers crossed for more good news at the awards in June.”
