This summer in Newcastle our centres are again providing free activity days for children over the school holidays.

Newcastle Trampoline Park and Gym is again running sessions over school holidays that can be accessed for FREE!

Our ‘Best Summer Ever’ camps are returning following the success of these schemes in previous years and after the February half term and Easter holidays this year; where our ‘Best Half Term Ever’ and ‘Best Easter Ever’ camps were a great success, allowing hundreds of children to get active and have access to a hot meal.

These sessions always include a range of fun activities such as Trampoline Park, various team games and a quiz, followed by a hot meal to finish.

The sessions are Free to children aged between 8 and 16 years and is aimed at those that would normally benefit from free school meals during term time.

Our camps this summer are on at the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday 9th August, 9:30am-1:30pm
  • Thursday 11th August, 9:30am-1:30pm
  • Tuesday 23rd August, 9:30am-1:30pm
  • Thursday 25th August, 9:30am-1:30pm

Please email geordie.cornish@gll.org to book onto one of our camps or call us on 07483017593

Spaces will initially be limited to two sessions per child, until we assess demand, to allow as many children as possible to benefit from this scheme.

We also have sessions taking place at some of our other centres in Newcastle this summer; at East End Pool, Eldon Soft Play & Bowling, Gosforth Leisure Centre and West Denton Leisure Centre.  These have followed on from other successful schemes at East End Pool also in February and Easter breaks this year.

The organisation and funding work for these camps is done in partnership with Street Games and Newcastle city council.

We also work closely with local schools, clubs and community organisations in delivery of these camps; Pendower youth project, Far centre, Westgate Juniors Football Club, Patchwork, Byker Scouts, Scotswood Community Garden Centre, Northbourne YI and N.E.S.T. to name just a few who have been involved in recent years.

Some of these groups will be holding their own sessions or have activities you may be able to access if our camps are full up or the times aren’t suitable.

We have a great mix of children who attend, with a range of ages in every camp from 6-16 years, a 60-40% split in gender recently and children from a range of backgrounds.

We have historically achieved a high % of those entitled to free school meals attending our previous camps, with an average of 68% this year, and we aim to do the same again this summer.

As highlighted in the news over the past year, families on low income and in benefit of free School meals can struggle during school holidays to provide food and enriched activities out of school terms.  Our centre is surrounded by four of the wards/areas in Newcastle with the highest percentage of children to receive free school meals, so having this provision is very important for our local area.

By offering these schemes to those living across these wards we are also helping to break down the barriers over local rivalries and enable them to come together in our great facility.

Attached are a few photos of the previous camps this year to show an example of these activities provided and the fun that can be had.
