Leisure services re-opening in Preston: Latest information

Better’s West View Leisure Centre has unveiled improvements to its disability access, with the introduction of a brand new hoist for the centre’s main swimming pool, thanks to the generosity of its supplier partner, Prism Medical.

The team at leisure centre, operated by Better – the customer-facing brand of GLL, has now restored full accessibility for customers, after a fault rendered one of the two hoists out of action.

After the problem with a non-working hoist was highlighted on Granada Tonight in February, Prism Medical stepped forward to offer a replacement free of charge in support of GLL’s mission to provide fully accessible swimming to the people of Preston and beyond.

With the replacement now installed, the centre welcomed local MP, Sir Mark Hendrick and Granada Tonight for a return visit, to see the upgraded equipment in operation.

This replacement from Prism Medical now means that the centre’s accessibility equipment includes two track hoists and a pool side hoist that can lower any customer into the main pool.

West View Leisure Centre’s General Manager, Gareth Hughes, said: “We have several groups and individuals who use the accessible changing rooms at West View Leisure Centre. I am delighted that Prism Medical has donated a new Hoist in the upstairs rooms so that every customer in Preston can continue to access our facilities.”
