Mayor’s Challenge Brings Community Together for a Day of Fitness and Fun
On 28 May 2026, the local community came together in impressive numbers to take part in this year’s highly anticipated Mayor’s Challenge, a lively event promoting health, fitness, and junior activities for children aged 8–12.
The event attracted a fantastic turnout, with particularly strong participation from children and young people eager to get involved in the wide range of activities on offer. From energetic gym sessions and engaging Junior Spin classes to the ever-popular inflatable pool activities, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Sports enthusiasts also took to the courts for friendly games of badminton, adding to the vibrant and active atmosphere throughout the day.
As part of the challenge, children collected stickers after successfully completing each activity. Once they had filled their sticker books, they were presented with certificates by the Mayor of Reading, Councillor Paul Gittings, in recognition of their achievements.
Families gathered not only to participate but also to support one another, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment that reflected the true spirit of the community. Laughter, excitement, and encouragement could be seen and heard across all activity areas.
Councillor Paul Gittings, who attended and actively took part in the day’s events, expressed his delight at the success of the challenge. Joining participants in a variety of activities, the Mayor highlighted the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles while strengthening community connections.
By the end of the day, it was clear that the Mayor’s Challenge had achieved its aims of encouraging physical activity, fostering community spirit, and creating lasting memories for everyone involved. The event also highlighted the growing demand for additional junior activities at Meadway Sports Centre.
We can not wait until next years Mayor Challenge event here at Meadway Sport Centre. It will be bigger and better with more on offer.
