Robert Buckland MP and Norman Thompson, chair of the Swindon Seniors Forum met with representatives of GLL, Zurich Community Trust and Bath University to learn about the Generation Gains project and how the project is impacting on young people and older residents in Swindon.
Apprentice Stephanie Houston gave account of her journey during her first year and how the link between the senior participants and the young apprentices is working.
Stephanie said 'I was not sure how this was going to work, young people instructing older people in physical activity classes but it has been fantastic. There is a real bond between the apprentices and the older residents and we have seen a real improvement in the older people's confidence and their strength and balance has definitely improved'
The Generation Gains Project is funded by Zurich Community Trust and delivered by GLL at the Swindon Better Centres and community venues for residents 65 years and over.
