Members of Better’s Cambridge team have joined forces with charity partner, Cancer Research UK to raise awareness of the charity’s Race for Life events taking place in the city this July, inviting women to walk, jog and run the 5k and 10k courses.

Better’s Parkside Pool & Gym recently hosted the ‘Better in Pink Super Sunday’ event, which saw the leisure centre covered in Cancer Research UK’s signature colour. In addition to a pink-themed cake sale and giveaways, the water in the Toddler Pool and the Dive Pool was temporarily turned pink – giving swimmers a fun, unique aquatic experience.

The Cancer Research UK science team was also on hand to give live demonstrations, offering insight into some of the ground-breaking research that goes on at its laboratories. And, as a final highlight, visitors were treated to a special appearance from Peppa Pig, who dropped in to delight many of the younger guests.

And in a ‘pink flash mob dance spectacular’, a team of over 30 performers, including Better staff and members were transported around the city centre on a pink Cancer Research UK-branded Stagecoach bus, stopping to deliver polished, choreographed routines. Locations included Lion Yard, Grand Arcade, Parker’s Piece, Grafton Centre, Jesus Green and the punting station on Castle Hill.

Sarah Taylor Community Sports Officer at GLL said: “These events held in Cambridge were a great success and attracted lots of attention. Hopefully by raising awareness of a great cause in such a fun, positive way we’ll see a good uplift in entries to the Race for Life over the next few weeks as a direct result of this partnership.”
