With Better Leisure Centres temporarily closed during the pandemic and exercise classes and workouts moved online (via the Better UK App), Better Libraries have followed suit, making available a variety of e-resources to reach more families bored at home in lockdown.

Better Libraries have also risen to the challenge of supporting community resilience, this week answering a shout-out from community-minded Woolwich citizen Sophie (@soophiesews) who was making up scrubs (medical uniforms) for NHS staff at Lewisham Hospital in South London.

With 80m of fabric but no way to print off the large paper patterns needed to cut the garments to size, Sophie was a bit stuck.

But a call to Better's Greenwich Library team was answered. Within hours,  Jan Garlick (Outreach Library Manager at Eltham Library) had printed the sewing patterns on library photocopiers and dispatched them to seamstress Sophie - who is now running-up 23 pairs of much-needed protective clothing for the NHS.

Another example of great community teamwork during the crisis and Better's social enterprise values in action.
