The Welwyn Hatfield Community Fund (WHCF) is a locally accessible funding source designed to help create new opportunities for physical activity, health and well-being in the borough. Despite the challenges faced by the community over the last 12 months, the WHCF remained open and has successfully funded a variety of projects, which will benefit the residents of Welwyn Hatfield.

The Welwyn Hatfield Community Fund seeks to encourage and develop participation in sport, leisure and recreation at all levels and across all sections of the Welwyn Hatfield community. Funding is available to support non-profit, social welfare, physical or mental health initiatives that encourage public engagement with fitness and active leisure.

Even as the year is coming to an end, there are still applications for exciting projects coming in. The latest project to be awarded funding is Culture Wood, a forest school project based in the parks around the borough. Residents will be able to enjoy the benefits of activities based outside, and around nature, while focusing on mental health. After the year of pressures from covid and lockdowns, the WHCF sees the importance of initiatives to benefit the mental health of local residents.

The WHCF has funded lots of projects which are very diverse. Projects have included; purchasing new equipment for sports teams and wellbeing initiatives, the local Cadets, a primary school playground and an essential local water rescue service. Funding has also been awarded to larger scale projects, such as music therapy sessions for people with dementia, Community Hubs, an all weather track for the local Riding for the Disabled Association, and contributing to the Centenary Wood land Garden in WGC.

At the heart of all the projects, is the aim to improve the health and wellbeing of those living in the local community of Welwyn Hatfield. The WHCF continually welcomes applications from individuals, groups, schools and organisations who feel they would benefit from funding. With a simple application form and no funding deadlines, the WHCF is accessible to the community at all times.  The WHCF looks forward to being able to continue supporting new projects in the New Year ahead.
