We have had a mixed month of weather generally, starting wet and then some good temperatures and finally a blast of cold with snow and sleet. As always the early months growth can be very sporadic.

Luckily during the good weather we were able to seed, apply thatch eater and 30 tons of dressing to the greens and this week we seeded and dressed the tees (to hold the seed) and re dressed the surrounds of the greens. Along with this we topped up the bunkers with 60 tons of new sand.

In the build up to Easter in April and the start of the competition season we always hope that the weather is consistent enough for good growth so that good definition can be seen over the course but inevitably we have to adjust heights of different cuts to try and achieve this.

The Greens are progressing well and been cut and rolled regularly to achieve a smooth and reasonably fast surface, in April they will slowly be encouraged with fertilisers and spiking to grow and hopefully the final cutting height could be achieved by the end of the month but a word caution as cold snaps can slow progress.

Tees are progressing well and with a reseed and light dressing this week we hope to get some new grass growth as soon the weather allows. Fairways have been cut regularly and the ribbed rollers and lowering of the cut are dissipating the worm casts and making them a lot easier to walk upon.

We even were able to cut some rough areas where the sun had shone, all in all the course is progressing well

The main jobs for April are to apply fertilisers to fairways, surrounds, and approaches along with the increasing of the grass maintenance across the course along with strimming, spraying and disease and weed control of the greens.
