The Welwyn Garden City Centenary Foundation undertook several projects to celebrate 100 years of Welwyn Garden City in 2020. Stanborough park were delighted to be part of the new Circular Walk, and were very happy to assist the foundation in achieving their goals. We have installed a handrail and have refurbished  the steps leading down to the river as part of the Centenary walk. The Foundation has installed waymarkers on posts around the park in order to help guide walkers on the correct route; follow the orange arrows either clockwise or anti-clockwise.

Towards the end of 2020 the foundation installed an information board, giving details, photographs and a useful map of the centenary walk. The board is situated beside the North Lake, just to the right of the bridge as you approach from the car park.

Now that all restrictions have been lifted we are really looking forward to seeing more visitors enjoying both the circular walk and the Park on their way through.

The centenary walk can be done all in one go, or decide to do small sections of it at a time, and is suitable for all ages. You can start anywhere on the route. Convenient car parks are at Stanborough Park and Digswell Viaduct. Refreshment and toilet stops at designated points on the route are subject to opening hours.

The circular walk around Welwyn Garden City combines existing footpaths into a single, well-marked trail with information about historical points of interest associated with the garden city to be seen along the way. The walk is one of the signature projects created for the Centenary in 2020 which celebrate Ebenezer Howard’s vision of creating a ‘marriage of town and country’. Walking promotes individual health and wellbeing, enables people to get out and about to learn more about the town where they live or work, and enjoy the beautiful countryside around the town. You can access the circular trail via the ‘Spokes’ which radiate from the town, with bus routes to and from the town centre.
