Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June Middlesex U10 girls compete for the national County Cup finals against Hertfordshire U10 girls.

It was a hard fought battle between the top two counties in the country. With the final contest in the head to head being a doubles match. At this stage Middlesex had taken the lead having won 2 out of the 3 singles matches contested. At 2/1 there was all to play for. Middlesex finally took the title winning the 3rd set tie break to clinch the crown.

This of course is an annual event but what made it special and worthy of note this year? Well, how often are both captains female? At this high level of competition only 18% of performance level coaches are female. Even more special is that both captains, Monica Becerra (Middlesex) and Sammie Williams (Hertfordshire) are both coaches at GLL’s Gosling Sports Park Tennis Centre.

Players from both counties train at Gosling Sports Park and have developed through the strong junior programme supported by the Lawn Tennis Association and GLL.
