Meet Susan D who is a member here at Windrush Leisure Centre. She is apart of our Healthwise scheme which is led by Samantha Strutt.

Susan: "The one to one reviews with Sam has really boosted my mental health. The time spent together having a good chat about how you are feeling, good or bad, what stops you mentally and physically getting into the programme. Learning new exercise techniques to do at home has greatly improved my flexibility.

From back surgery a few years ago to putting on too much weight and realising a structured fitness plan is the only answer. I.E I find it so hard to this by myself. So this has been a good mental and physical pathway back into physical fitness.

Back surgery left me with a constant stiffness in my lower back, making early mornings a constant battle to do anything. Now with 4 exercise classes a week and gym work each week, I have really improved movement to my lower back.

I feel a great improvement to my back and mental wellbeing. I'm so much more flexible than before, but still a long road to go. To the point of understanding this has to be the way forward for me for the rest of my life. Because if I stop exercising I am back to square one with my health. 

Sam is a wonderful motivator, and a good listener. To have someone feel your pain, lifts your sprits. So I think its a great service for people that struggle with their health to realise that you can get fit again. I would not have been able to do it alone without the support of my regular reviews with Sam. I need to put my time in like she has done for me".
