Is this the first time you are using a leisure centre in a while? Don’t worry! At Better we know this can be a daunting prospect. We have trained staff on hand to answer any questions you may have and give you any extra support you might need, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
Our leisure centres are here for everyone and you can use most facilities whether you’re a member or not. If you decide to start coming regularly, then signing up to a membership will save you money.
The gym is the only facility you need a membership for before you can use it as you will need to have an induction, where we will show you how to use all the equipment correctly. However, you can also have a free trial if you’d like to give it a go first with a free day pass.

Entering a leisure centre
The first thing you’ll see when you enter through the front doors will be a reception desk and some barriers. The barriers are there for customer safety, to make sure we’re monitoring who is in the building.
All our leisure centres are accessible if you use a wheelchair, and there are many other facilities we have in place to make access easier. You can find more information on accessibility on each leisure centre’s webpage.
The reception team are here to book you in for your activity. They can also help with any other information you might need. If you choose to become a member you’ll also have the option of checking in for activities using the self service kiosks, next to reception. You can pay in cash, by card or online.
Once you’ve checked in for your activity, you’ll be able to go through the barriers.
Planning to bring a bag or a buggy for your child?
All of our leisure centres have lockers where you can store your clothes and other possessions while you take part in your activity. These are either in the changing rooms or nearby.
Depending on the leisure centre, the lockers will either take a £1 coin, a 20p coin, token or a padlock, which you can buy at reception. Many of our leisure centres also have areas to securely leave buggies. It’s best to check beforehand what type of lockers are available, so you know what to bring with you. This information will be on the leisure centre’s webpage.
To avoid you having to carry your own towel, many of our leisure centres have towels available for hire or as part of your membership. This information will be on your leisure centre’s webpage.
