The Islington Football Development Partnership and the Islington & Camden Schools FA hosted a 7-a-side competition at Market Road, the winner of which goes through to the English Schools FA’s national competition.

14 schools took part, playing in 3 qualifying groups, with 150 players in attendance.

St Aloysius would prove dominant in Group A, winning all three games to qualify for the semi-finals. UCL would go undefeated in Group B to also qualify as group winners whilst St Mary Magdelene from this group qualified as the best runner-up, edging out the other group runners up, Maria Fidelis and Acland Burleigh. Central Foundation won the tightest of groups in Group C, where there were only 3 points separating all five teams.

St Aloysius beat UCL 1-0 in their semi-final with St Mary Magdelene coming under a lot of pressure from Central Foundation but managed to score on the counter-attack, eventually winning 2-0.

St Aloysius finished the day with five straight wins, beating St Mary Magdelene 1-0 in the final, striker Stefan Mgbada scoring five goals in the tournament. St Aloysius will go on to represent Islington in the Year 7 5-a-side national competition.

“There was some great football played and Group C was so tight, nearly anybody could have won. St Aloysius were well organised by Mr Simon and did look the strongest team on the day”, commented Michael MacNeill, Football Development Manager.
