On the 17th November the Copper Box Arena located on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will host the 10th annual Better Club Games. The event will once again see around 600 participants aged 55 and over representing different London Boroughs and regions, competing in various sporting events and activities. In much the same vain as previous years, the London Aquatics Centre will play host to the Timed Swim event, with this show piece event due to get underway at midday.
The 2015 Club Games will be opened by Mark Sesnan, GLL’s Managing Director (operator of Better leisure facilities). On the day sporting celebrities and other VIP guests will be in attendance, playing an integral role during the presentation ceremony which will crown the overall winners.
Last year participants from Merton performed outstandingly well finishing 3rd out of the 18 boroughs and regions who competed. With the plan being to go two Better this year, Team Merton coordinator Catherine Ko comments on the prospects for Team Merton
‘‘We are really looking forward to this year’s event, this year we have had ideal preparation with the mini-club games event held at Canons leisure Centre against Team Lambeth, helping to replicate the atmosphere that our participants will be facing on the day. Whether or not we win is not the focus, this event is about ensuring that our club members feel apart of something amazing which in tern adds additional meaning and value to their lives, with the prospect of winning the event being an added bonus!’’
