A Message from our PT, Flavia Santini:
As many of you know, in March 2017 I was diagnosed with stage 2b Hodgkin's lymphoma.
If you're wondering why I'm not running for cancer research, let me start by saying, I actually have - twice. And as much as I admire and respect the work of each and every cancer researcher out there, my personal experience with cancer treatment has made me revaluate pretty much everything in the way I live my life and what I hope for the future.
The oncology team assigned to treat me has, more than one time, made it clear to me what I *don't* want my life to be all about: impersonal, cold, cynical, rushed, tactless and based on fear. I have since refused treatment and chosen a path many have successfully walked before, a road less traveled called alternative medicine.
Enter Dogs Trust. Or put simply, dogs.
Every dog that I've ever known, including my own, has taught me the things I now value the most and decided to base my life on: mindfulness, presence, curiosity, openness, strength, authenticity, kindness and unconditional love.
It's all become a whole lot clearer to me now, and this has been a gift I'll never been able to put a price tag on. It has enabled me to turn my life around, stay strong in my protocols and - wait for it - see my inflammation markers drop considerably with full blood count improving in ways the oncologists can't explain or understand.
It's the one reason I believe in myself enough to train for and run a marathon.
I'm happy to report these past four months have been the best of my life so far. I have no reason to think the future will be bleak and terrifying, quite the contrary. And I would like, with all my heart, to help secure a brighter and better future to as many doggies out there as I possibly can. So they can continue to inspire and encourage many of us to live life on our own terms.
Let's do this together.
With love and thanks,
