About the new Olympia Leisure Centre

Belfast City Council has invested £19m in the £21.75m redevelopment of the Olympia Leisure Centre as part of their £105m Leisure Transformation Programme.

1. What’s inside our brand new centre?

• The total size of the new facility will be 6,000 square metres, compared with 3.600 square metres at the current centre – almost double the size of our existing centre!
• 6-lane 13m x 25m pool
• 13m x 7m learner pool
• 60 cover coffee corner with kitchen and storage facilities
• Spa area offering steam, sauna, sanarium, ice room, Jacuzzi and treatment rooms
• 4-court sports hall
• Two-level 120 station fitness suite
• Spin studio
• Multi-purpose room
• Wet and dry changing, office, reception, toilets, staff room and other ancillary facilities
• 3G pitch which will be marked for. 5-a-side and 7-a-side matches
• Facilitation of 30 hours per week of community services programming

The existing pitch will be available until summer 2017, when it will close to be replaced.

2. When will the existing Olympia Leisure Centre close to the general public?

The existing Olympia Leisure Centre will close to the public on Sunday 18th December at 4pm.

3. Where can I continue to exercise from Monday 19th December once the centre has closed?

You will have access to all leisure centres across Belfast that GLL operate on behalf of Belfast City Council.

4. What times will the leisure centres in Belfast be open over the Christmas and New Year period?

Due to the time of the year the leisure centres will have changed opening times.

5. If I am current member of the existing Olympia does my membership automatically transfer to the new centre?

Yes, your existing membership will automatically transfer to the new centre. There will be no change to your existing price and entitlements if your membership remains active. In addition, we are attaching a complimentary upgrade to your existing membership providing city-wide access to 14 centres across the city.

6. Will activity prices change within the New Olympia?

No, all activity prices will remain the same, as per Belfast Membership Architecture which was introduced in May 2016. When new activities or products are introduced (e.g. Spa, Coffee Corner) separate pricing will be applied.

7. Will my current booking in the existing Olympia Leisure Centre automatically transfer into the New Olympia?

All main hall, exercise studios and swimming pool programmes are currently being developed for the New Olympia to ensure a balanced and varied programme of activities. Any existing booking(s) interested in making a booking at the New Olympia should contact a member of staff and complete an expression of interest / booking form.

8. When will the 3G pitches close to the general public?

We expect that the 3G pitch will operate until summer 2017. After this the pitch will be closed and a new 3G pitch will be built. This will result in the pitch being unavailable for approximately 6 months.

9. How do I access the centre?

The access route will, initially, be 100 yards from the main entrance of the old Olympia Leisure Centre. This is located between the Old Olympia Leisure Centre and the Boucher Retail Park. This is a temporary measure until our new access road is completed in 2018.

10. Will the Olympia Drive pedestrian gate be open?

Unfortunately there will be no initial access from the Olympia Drive area. This is a temporary measure and access will be restored upon the completion of site works in this area.

11. Where do I park?

Car parking will be available within the New Olympia Leisure Centre access road. Additional parking will be available from an overflow car park available from the Old Olympia Leisure Centre. This is a temporary measure whilst building works are being completed.

12. I like to swim early in the morning. Will I be able to do this at the New Olympia Leisure Centre?

Yes, we will have swimming lane provision from 6am-9am each day from Monday – Friday.
